1 day to go

I just can't believe it! Times fly as they say!
Everything is pretty much ready! I had to go through my luggage over and over to make sure they stay at 50 lbs each. They are full of pencils, erasers, pens, pencil sharpeners and some toys.

This is not enough for the kids but I wish each Haitian can do as little as that and we can begin then to see a difference. I am not trying to brag about myself which I would not have the right to since I was helped by so many others but when we put ourselves together to give back to our communities, our countries we all can make a difference. I will go through the details on my latest posts.

I would like to thank all of you who have made everything possible up to this point I will single them out on a later post.

I am still in the process of coordinating with a crew in Haiti on how we are going to do the distribution, we are still not sure about transportation but I know the Lord will work something out!

Please pray for us since they are so many activities in the Atlantic Ocean as far as potential hurricanes (none of them are welcomed)

This project is about putting Faith in God knowing that he will provide and I will elaborate more as well at a later post. Wowwww.... so many things for me to follow up with it means the blog is getting more and more interesting!!!! Just keep on reading it and make your comments!

From banana boat to top chef

Ron Duprat’s story is one of survival, opportunity and success.

Duprat reached America after a 27-day journey at sea aboard a banana boat — his way of escaping Haiti.

“We didn’t even know where we were going,” Duprat told me recently while in Tampa, Fla., for the National Association of Black Journalists annual convention. “It was a journey I will never forget.”

Now Duprat, the executive chef at the Hollywood Beach Marriott hotel, is a contestant on “Top Chef Las Vegas,” which began airing Wednesday (August 26 2009) on Bravo.

“As a kid growing up in Haiti, I would have never thought I’d be at top chef,” he said. “It’s a dream come true. I want people to watch the show. People will see something the world has never seen before. They will see food they’ve never heard about. They will see methods no one knows even exist.”

Duprat learned to cook from his grandmother in Haiti. His ambitions go high.

“My goal is to start a campaign someday that makes sure no kids go to bed hungry,” he said.

6 days to go!

Though I have not been updating the blog in the past few weeks, I have however been working on making the trip a reality! I have received more supports than expected and I will tell you more about this on a later post.

I will be updating my blog a little more often now and I am hoping once in Haiti if I have internet access I will do a daily update (if possible) I will put the pictures on it once I am back in the US.

Please keep us in your prayers. A lot of hurricanes are forming and we are not sure how safe Haiti will be and you remember we just had 4 of them in a year and we are still recovering from that we do have a long way to go!

Haitian Creole Picnic

There is something about being Haitian or people who care about Haiti. I went to Asheville, NC last night to a fundraising called Haitian Creole picnic organized by Mission MANNA! It was pretty refreshing and they had some good food to. This fundraising was to help finding sponsors for trip and worms medicine for children in Haiti. This is an amazing organization that needs our support.

They have been around for 10 years working in Montrouis. It was a pleasure to meet one Haitian friend named Luxo and his wife Maggie they are good people with a heart for Haiti and I think that Maggie was the one or one of the persons who started this organization. Luxo is a very nice tall gentleman who even gave me a compilation of compas music on a CD Thanks Luxo! I was so glad! I am telling you, if you come to leave in a country where there are none of your fellow native at least in the city where you live you can feel country sick pretty quick and it can last for a long time. So any time and every time I get the opportunity to meet a fellow Haitian I jump on the occasion and make the best of it. I will encourage you to visit their website and see how you can be of a help to them. It is true that you might not be able to go to Haiti yourself due to circumstances that only know about, but you can still help by either sponsoring a project or supporting somebody who is doing such a tremendous work in this country of mine.

I met several other wonderful people and one of them is Dr. Wells know as Papa noel (santaclaus) in Haiti! He poured his heart to me about his love for Haiti and the Haitian people. Doctors can earn so much by working in the United States but when you have somebody who dedicates himself to help Haiti, this is priceless!!!! Thanks Doctor Wells I hope we talk more and see what we can do together

I will be heading to Haiti this August and can’t wait to eat “fritay” and “akasan”. Haiti is a beautiful country it has just been a victim of political unrest, which results in its poverty but if you invest in a kid in Haiti you are not only saving a kid but you are more than anything saving a generation and make Haiti a better place!

Haiti ou gen pou leve kanpe! Yes Haiti will rise but all of us have to come together to make it a reality. Our flag motto says: “l’union fait la force (Unity brings power) this is so true! Alone we are weak but together we are strong and though we might not agree with each other’s ideology we can still come together and put aside our difference just for the sake of the unfortunate.

Kids are suffering in Haiti with hunger; they did not do anything to deserve to be in this situation! As a matter of fact they did not have a choice! Haitians are good people who need good guidance from unselfish people! Please think about helping Haiti and as always thanks for loving Haiti. We need doctors, nurses, health care worker, engineers; any professional or non professional people to help us by helping the Haitians help themselves! Please support Mission Manna! Support any legitimate organization that are making a positive difference in Haiti! Yes you can! You can make a difference.

Walking toward the goal

I am so excited to announce that everything so far is going wonderfully great with the project. I am collecting pens, erasers, pencils sharpeners. I am looking for ways to be able to buy some notebooks (copybooks) to distribute to the kids as well.

Moreover, I am planning on having a hot meal with them (chicken with beans and meat) on the day of the toy distribution and I am still looking for a sponsor for this part of the project.

The plan is to feed about 250 kids on this day and then to give them the schools items that I I will bring with me.

You do not have to be a star to be a part of helping and you might go unnoticed which is great but your rewards will come from heaven and to see a smile on a child's face is priceless! We all can make a difference!
